FULL TIME CIRCUIT COURT MAGISTRATE POSITION

PUBLIC NOTICE FOR APPOINTMENT OF NEW MAGISTRATE JUDGE

Circuit Court Judge John Broden is seeking applicants for the position of Magistrate of the St. Joseph Circuit Court.  The new Magistrate position has opened upon the announcement of the retirement of Honorable Andre B. Gammage, effective May 5, 2025. Magistrate Gammage has served the St. Joseph Circuit Court honorably and diligently for the past 12 years, he will be missed. We wish him luck in his future endeavors. The Circuit Court is happy to announce that the Honorable Julie P. Verheye will be moving to Mishawaka to preside over his caseload.

The open Magistrate position will serve the Circuit Court in its Civil Protective Order Division. This docket has felony cases, civil proceeding cases, and a high volume of Civil Protection Order case filings made in person and through e-filing.

Applicants must be a resident of St. Joseph County, a graduate of an accredited law school, and admitted to the practice of law and in good standing with Supreme Court of Indiana. Experience with domestic relations and criminal practice is highly preferred.  DEADLINE:  March 24, 2025 at 12 Noon

FULL TIME ATTORNEY

The City of South Bend seeks an experienced generalist attorney to join its legal team to serve as support for the South Bend Human Rights Commission, South Bend Animal Resource Center, and assist with support for the City’s Access to Public Records Act requests. Law Firm Assistant Needed:  Part-time

Position: Small but busy law office seeks part-time office assistant to work about 20 hours per week. Hours will be Monday – Friday daytime, flexible. Duties will be creating legal documents as directed, communicating with clients, some bookkeeping, scanning, and other general office matters.

Qualifications: High school diploma, good written and spoken communication skills, ability to work without close supervision, organization skills, computer literacy – Word and Excel, positive attitude and willingness to work hard and learn.

Compensation: $16.00 per hour and possibly more based on experience.
